Biodex is proud to congratulate former Biodex intern, Kevin Gmelin, who will be graduating as Valedictorian of the Center Moriches High School’s class of 2018.
Spending the summer of 2017 working among top engineers at Biodex, Kevin was empowered with not only knowledge, but opportunities to make real contributions to an upcoming product.
Kevin was no stranger to Biodex coming into his internship. Biodex sponsors the FIRST Robotics Team 4458, of which Kevin served as co-president, and he had been to the Biodex headquarters for robot demonstrations in the past.
As an intern, Kevin put his programming knowledge to the test on a chromatography scanner for the company’s Nuclear Medicine division. Normally used to scan for color on a paper strip, this one measures radiation levels and outputs data. Kevin contributed to the hardware design as well as firmware development. He wrote firmware for the USB communication, scanning of the chromatography strip, and data separation.
Kevin will attend Stevens Institute of Technology, majoring in biomedical engineering and cyber security. Biodex wishes him all the best.
