Local Students Get Hands-On Training at Biodex

Local Students Get Hands-On Training

Biodex hosted a troop of local students from Suffolk Community College for hands-on rehab education at our corporate building in Shirley, NY. The students, who are training to become physical therapist assistants, learned about the benefits of blending traditional rehabilitation techniques with technology.

After a classroom session led by Natalie Thompson, Education Administrator and Applied Clinician, the group headed down to our demo area for demonstrations of some of the most advanced Biodex devices, starting with the System 4 dynamometer. Then they broke into groups and rotated between the Balance System SDmedBike and BioStep 2 Semi-Recumbent Elliptical. Under the instruction of Thomas Giammanco, Physical Medicine Sales Manager, and Louis Altrui, Inside Sales & Business Development Manager, US, each student was able to get up close and personal with the devices to gain a better understanding of the ways technology can aid therapists through enhanced treatments and objective analysis.

Professor Kerry Hoffman, who has been bringing her classes to Biodex for years, hopes that one day these future PTAs will champion these benefits in their future careers and help more patients gain access to advanced treatment tools.
