Biodex hosts the Center Moriches High School Robotics Team

Robotics Team at Biodex

Biodex is a proud sponsor of the Center Moriches High School Robotics Team.  The team consists of a group of students that work together to compete in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition, a national program that challenges teams of students and their mentors to design and build a 130-pound robot in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. The international competition has grown to more than 1,303 teams competing in 37 regional events, including Israel and Brazil.

Based upon developing team work skills, teams are rewarded for excellence in design, demonstrating team spirit, gracious professionalism and maturity, and the ability to overcome obstacles. Scoring the most points is a secondary goal. Winning means building partnerships that last.

This year the teams were tasked with producing a robot that could pick up and stack items.  The CM robotics team achieved their highest recognition in their short history, being seeded 14th out of 51 teams at the Long Island regional competition of FIRST, SBPLI, Inc. which took place at Hofstra University in March 2015.

The team and their mentor visited Biodex on May 20.  They demonstrated the robot to onlookers in the Ramsey cafeteria.  After the robot demonstration, the group toured the corporate offices and manufacturing.  Rick Prince gave them a design engineering presentation and Kirk DeLucia provided the fab tour.  Kirk is also involved with the FIRST competition as a mentor for the Hauppauge High School Robotic Eagles.

Congratulations to the entire Center Moriches High School Robotics Team for their outstanding achievement!
